Abstract: In this paper we present a method of decomposition of forging dies during High Speed Machining (HSM) planning. The decoposition process lies on the creation of machining features. The decomposition phase, called Basic Machining Features Extraction is presented. The decomposition method integrates machining resources models and expert machining knowledge to provide an outstanding process planning.

Key words: forging die, high speed machining, feature modelling, shape decomposition.
